Review of “Heartless” by Anne Stengl 2

In October, I posted an interview with Anne Elisabeth Stengl, author of Heartless, an inspirational fantasy. Since that time, I have received and read (courtesy of publisher Bethany House) a review copy of the book.

I found Heartless a fairy tale–type book that was a joy to read. The central character is Princess Una, who longs to marry the prince of her dreams. However, once she comes of age, her first suitor appears: Prince Aethelbald of the fabled kingdom of Farthestshore, a place so magical and inaccessible that people have begun to think that perhaps it never existed. Unfortunately, the princess is not impressed by Prince Aethelbald, despite the fact that he has traveled far to prove his love for her. Instead, she gives her heart to another and the trouble begins, especially after rumors begin to abound regarding an evil dragon on the rampage, working his way toward Princess Una’s homeland, Parumvir.

That’s as far as I’m going to go because I hope you’ll find a copy of this book for yourself and I don’t want to ruin the story for you. Heartless, Book 1 in the “Tales of Goldstone Wood”, is a book that I would recommend to anyone with a love for fantasy and fairy tales and who is looking for a fun read. If that describes you, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

As for me, I’m looking forward to Book 2, Veiled Rose, which is scheduled to be released Summer 2011. (Preorder here.)
